Title of Performance: Cerita Anak (Child's Story)

Country: Australia and Indonesia

In Cerita Anak (Child’s Story), children and their adults climb aboard a boat and become passengers and storytellers—rocking and rolling across a strange ocean, diving to the bottom of the sea, hearing stories on the wind and in the ocean currents, and facing great danger before returning safely to harbor. Inspired by the seafaring history of Java, this production by Australia’s Polyglot Theatre and Indonesia’s Papermoon Puppet Theatre was developed with local children from a fishing village north of Java. With puppetry, song, shadow imagery, and sound, this immersive experience bustles with all the life of the ocean.
