Gender diversity is being embraced by young people all over the world, and their desire for gender liberation was heard loud and clear at IPAY Showcase 2020. If the work we choose to put on on live and virtual stages does not honor the complexity of gender, what message does that send to the young people in the audience? If the space we invite young people to inhabit is not affirming of their gender expression, how can they be expected to engage safely and openly with the greater culture of the organization?

Our commitment to creating performance for young audiences extends beyond inclusive representation of gender-marginalized people on stage. With today's youth embracing gender spectrums and breaking the gender binary, it has become clear how important it is that we do the same in the work we offer them. How can we do this effectively without tokenizing the experiences of our audiences or artistic collaborators? On this webinar, trans and gender-variant artists will discuss their work, their practices, the shifts they'd like to see within the performance for young audiences sector, and how you can contribute to liberatory futures for young people across the limitless gender spectrum.

Guest speakers Ivor McAskill, MJ Kaufman, Futaba Shioda, facilitated by IPAY's Bailey Roper
