Alice Donohoe Roberts has been the Vice President of Education and Community Programs at The Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, TN since 2006., Her primary objectives include initiating community and school-based arts learning, collaborating with tri-state school systems on arts integration teaching, and developing programs that aim to provide high quality arts engagement to students and families throughout the Mid-South region. She is committed to ensuring that audiences mirror the demographics of the community and remain widely accessible. Under her leadership for the last 15 years, the Education department has grown to serve over 70,000 Mid-South students and families annually.
She is also acting as the Project Manager for The Orpheum Centre for Performing Arts & Education – a $15 million new facility currently under construction, scheduled to open in summer 2015.
Mrs. Roberts graduated an Honors Scholar from James Madison University and has contributed to theatre performance study guides and arts curriculum since 1996. She is a registered Teaching Artist and a panelist for Tennessee Arts Commission, John F. Kennedy Center Professional Development for teachers partner, and NEA. Before joining the Orpheum, she worked as an Assistant Director, Literary Assistant, and Company Manager in the League of Regional Theatres and has directed in Washington D.C., San Francisco, Dallas, and Memphis.
She advocates a hands-on approach to dealing with community issues and has been widely recognized as a pioneer for her work within the region. Local awards include: Memphis Business Journal Superwoman in Business, Junior League of Memphis 90 Women of Distinction, 50 Women Who Make a Difference, Leadership Academy Fellows Graduate, Memphis Business Journal Top Forty Under Forty, Semi-finalists Ten Outstanding Young Americans, and Outstanding Young Tennessean.
