Wendy Bable is a director/deviser/playwright who has directed over twenty-five plays for both young audiences and adults, including Still Life with Iris, Through the Darkness, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Bald Soprano, Gypsy, Antigone, Lysistrata, and The Lesson. Her work on Seussical, the Musical at Zach Scott Theatre and Steven Dietz’s Still Life with Iris received Austin Critic’s Table Nominations for Best Direction in 2008 and 2009. Wendy was named a Winifred Ward Scholar by the American Alliance for Theater and Education, and in 2011 she was selected as the U.S. ambassador to the ASSITEJ International Directing Seminar in Cologne, Germany. Her direction of The Transition of Doodle Pequeño was featured at the Kennedy Center in the 2012 New Visions/NewVoices festival. Playwriting credits include Mark Twain: Sacred Cows Make the Best Hamburgers, Funky Snowman, and My Pet Dragon. She is currently collaborating on a community-engaged performance installation entitled [SHIFT] with the National Theatre of Scotland. Areas of specialization include: theatre for young audiences, new play dramaturgy and development, sensory-friendly/relaxed performance, site-specific installation theatre, and community-engaged devising.
