Helene Ducharme
Helene Ducharme is a playwright, director, actress and puppeteer.
As Co-Founder, Artistic Co-Director and General Manager of Theatre Motus, she has written all the company’s creations and directed the last five: BELLY BUTTON, TIGER BY THE TAIL, INUUSSIA, the seal-woman, BUBBLES, winter legends for micro-puppets, BAOBAB and POUR EN FINIR AVEC… CYRANO.
Her passion for theatre led her to pursue a complete training (acting, puppeteering, acrobatics, modern dance and mask work). Her B.A. in Education motivated her to work with children through drama and puppetry classes and the supervision of story writing. In parallel, she kept exploring worlds as diverse as acting, staging and writing. In 2001 her passion for young audiences naturally led her to found her own company, Theatre Motus. Her deep respect for children brought her to develop each of her plays in close collaboration with them. Her artistic curiosity for other cultures leads her to create sensitive plays which are often enriched through her contact with foreign artists. She has written plays for teenagers and adults as well as for children, and co-wrote an animated film with Co Hoderman for the National Film Board of Canada.
She is the President of the Quebec Association of Puppeteers (AQM) since 2008. Among other organizations, she got involved in the board of Theatres Unis Enfance Jeunesse (TUEJ, Quebec theatre for young people association), the artistic committee of La Maison Theatre (Montreal) and the board of the Centre des auteurs dramatiques (Quebec playwrights’ association). She recently received the Award for artistic creation in Monteregie (her region of Quebec) granted by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec (Quebec’s Arts Council).
